CFL Light Bulb Fundraising

The Kohala Center, Blue Planet Foundation, and Hawaii Energy encouraged community organizations and school groups to participate in a Compact Florescent Light (CFL) bulb exchange fundraising program. Participating groups agreed to replace up to 1,000 old-style incandescent bulbs with energy-efficient CFL bulbs. The Blue Planet Foundation paid 40 cents for each old incandescent bulb exchanged, up to a total of $400 (or 1,000 bulbs) per group. The CFL bulbs were provided to the groups as a community service effort by Hawaii Energy, and there was no cost to Hawai‘i residents who participated in the exchange.

DIY fundraising ideas

Palos South’s Environmental Club, Palos Park, IL, hosted a CFL bulb fundraiser to raise money and to help out the environment. The bulbs cost the same or less than they do at local stores and the school received 60% of the proceeds. The bulbs use up to 75% less energy and last up to seven years.

The Havelock High School band, Havelock, NC, teamed up with Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative to help distribute 60,000 CFL bulbs (compact fluorescent light bulb) to the area. The mission was to get 60,000 incandescent light bulbs replaced by 60,000 fluorescent bulbs. This could create a huge savings in electricity. Bulbs were sold for $1.00 each and the band received 50 cents of every light bulb sold.

We have included a number of do-it-yourself fundraising ideas in this section such as CFL Light Bulb Sale that offer a break from traditional product sales.  They were developed by groups just like yours in an attempt have a little fun with their fundraiser. Some of them are tried and true while others show a lot of creativity ... and even wackiness in some cases.  All of them are obviously not appropriate for every group, but sometimes, with only a little modification, your might find some fund raising ideas that are perfect for your group. If you have an idea for a do-it-yourself fund raiser you are willing to share with others, please send it to us via email at . Include anything and everything you would want to know if you were hearing the idea for the first time.
