Our variation on a
fundraising raffle is to have a
table of donated items. Our members donate new items they have
received as gifts but don't want, things
they have made with their special talents (i.e.- hand-made jewelry,
baked goods, clothing, etc.), items donated from local businesses, and
certificates for free admission to future lodge events or
services (such as baby sitting or house-cleaning). The items are on
display during our charity fundraising dinner.
During the cocktail hour and dinner, we sell
tissue paper bags that either contain a number or a novelty prize (we
usually use chocolate candies). We plump up
the bags with filler material such as shredded paper to disguise the
contents. The bags are sold for $10 each. At a specified time the
bags are opened and the people with numbers get to choose from
the prize table in order of the numbers.
The others get to enjoy their chocolates.
We try to limit the number of bags so people have
a good chance of winning a prize. We always sell out of the prize
bags and are able to raise several hundred dollars for our chosen
charity using this fundraising technique.
We have included a number of do-it-yourself
fundraising ideas in this section such as
a Raffle Tablethat offer a break from traditional
product sales. They were developed by groups just like yours in an
attempt have a little fun with their fundraiser. Some of them are tried
and true while others show a lot of creativity ... and even wackiness in
some cases. All of them are obviously not appropriate for every
group, but sometimes, with only a little modification, your might find
some fund raising ideas that are perfect for your group. If you have an
idea for a do-it-yourself fund raiser you are willing to share with
others, please send it to us via email at .
Include anything
and everything you would want to know if you were hearing the idea for
the first time.
