Mopping a Yard Fundraiser

Ever heard of Flamingo Flocking? You know, where someone wakes up one morning and finds their yard decorated with a flock of garish pink flamingos? Well, ever innovative, a group of ladies in my MOPS group decided to take this idea and put our own spin on it! And now, we’ve got a great fundraiser and a fun activity, too! At our first meeting of the year, we had our table groups decorate a few dozen  wet mops and pretty ‘em up! Now you can “Mop” someone’s yard and they will wake up to a yard full of our special “Mops Ladies” and a oh so cute sign that says “Your Yard’s Been Mopped by MOPS @ Crossroads Community Church.”

The price of this fundraiser is simple. For just $10 (or more if someone is super generous), a yard can be “mopped”! And those moms who aren’t in a mopping spirit and need to ensure their yard isn’t Mopped, we provide “Anti-Mopping” insurance for just $10 a semester. While in effect, no one can Mop that yard. But, what fun would that be?! We also plan on rolling out some “Premiums” to celebrate special occasions.  Birthday hats on our “Mops Ladies” and a special sign in the yard for just $2 extra. Santa Hats and some special yard decorations at Christmas!  We’ve even done a “It’s a Boy!” sign just recently for a mom and her new baby!

While at first you may assume this fundraiser would not be right for your group, why not use the same ingenuity as these ladies and come up with a similar idea that fits your group? Source: The Care& Feeding of a MOPS Group

We have included a number of do-it-yourself fundraising ideas in this section that offer a break from traditional product sales.  They were developed by groups just like yours in an attempt have a little fun with their fundraiser. Some of them are tried and true while others show a lot of creativity … and even wackiness in some cases.  All of them are obviously not appropriate for every group, but sometimes, with only a little modification, your might find some fund raising ideas that are perfect for your group. If you have an idea for a do-it-yourself fund raiser you are willing to share with others, please send it to us via email. Include anything and everything you would want to know if you were hearing the idea for the first time.
