Freshman Class Fundraising Ideas

As the “new kids on the block”, freshmen at high schools and colleges are often looking for a way to make their mark, to get noticed and to prove themselves. One way of doing that is throwing a fundraiser for a worthy cause, maybe a local charity or a fellow student with medical needs. Some freshmen have a fundraiser to raise money for class trips, or to make some kind of lasting improvement to the school.

One of the biggest decisions is often deciding what type of fundraiser to do. In Hamilton, NY, Colgate University hosted a special mixed-doubles tennis tournament fundraiser in honor of the 8–year-old boy that died in the Boston Marathon bombing. In Wisconsin, every year the 9th grade class does only one fundraising event as a class. They sell magazines to help pay for events such as: Homecoming Dance costs during their sophomore year, Prom during their junior year, costs associated with graduation, and scholarships for those in their class. Fundraisers by other Freshman classes include yoga classes, candy grams, concerts, thons, bake sales, talent shows, trivia nights, garage sales, restaurant nights, spinning classes, raffles, dating games, product sales, car washes and donation jars.

Rent-a-Kid - Our youth group at church did this fundraiser several years ago and you can make money at no or very little cost. We advertised to our church that the kids in the youth would be for rent between such and such dates, (allow one or two weeks for the project). Have youth leader to be the one people check with to rent a kid. Read more…
