Home School Fundraising Ideas

Approximately one million children are home schooled in the U.S. and that number grows every year. Just like their public school and private school counterparts, there inevitably comes a time when home schoolers need to throw a fundraising event to pay for supplies, field trips, specially prepared course work or just for a worthy cause to help teach students the rewards of giving back to one’s community. Fundraising can be challenging, especially when you don’t have a large student body to call upon for help.

One of the biggest decisions is often deciding what type of fundraiser to do. One home school family held a garage sale fundraiser in Milwaukee, WI to cover athletic expenses in conjunction with a local high school.  In Anderson, SC, a group of homeschoolers pooled their resources and sold pastries, and the Moms conducted cooking classes. Several homeschoolers have conducted a Facebook fundraiser, selling various products. Fundraisers by other Home Schools include read-a-thons, product sales, raffles, car washes, dinners, carnivals, and auctions.

The most popular fundraising products are candles, candy, catalogs, cause related, cheesecake, Christmas, coffee, cookbooks, cookie dough, discount cards, eco friendly, flower bulbs, greeting cards, magazines, online, pasta, popcorn, scratch cards, snacks, special events, spirit, t-shirts, and a wide variety of unique surprises, many of which would be appropriate for Home Schools.  If you don't find a fundraising idea that appeals to you, check out our complete product and do-it-yourself indexes for a great selection of fundraiser ideas for Home Schools.

Doughnut Seeds - This is another simple fundraising idea that will get a lot of laughs. Just put some Cheerios in a plastic bag with a label that says Doughnut Seeds. Rent-a-Kid - Our youth group at church done this one several years ago and you can make money at no or very little cost. We advertised to our church that the kids in the youth would be for rent between such and such dates, (allow one or two weeks for the project). Have youth leader to be the one people check with to rent a kid. Read more…

Singing Christmas Cards - Similar to a singing telegram, this fund raiser is easy because everyone can sing Christmas carols. Form singing teams of three or more, and assign each team a particular night to deliver singing cards. For each team, designate a captain who'll be the spokesperson when the team arrives to sing for customers. Read more…
