Kindergarten Fundraising Ideas

Kindergarten is usually a child’s first encounter with formal education and the classroom setting and might even be the first time he or she has spent a significant amount of time with other children their own age. It’s a special time in any child’s life and as parents and teachers you want that experience to be the best it can be. Sometimes that means fundraising for needed supplies, for field trips or for school improvements. Fundraising in a kindergarten setting can be fun and should be simple enough for the children to be able to help.

One of the biggest decisions is often deciding what type of fundraiser to do. In Illinois, students at the Lester Crawl Elementary school held a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through the school's annual Pasta for Pennies collection. In Grand Blanc, MI, friends and family of a Grand Blanc teacher at Myers Elementary who had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia, held two fundraisers to help with medical expenses and to fund a scholarship account in her name. Fundraisers by other Kindergartens include wishing wells, fashion contests, portraits, thons, penny wars, raffles, dinner theaters, pajama days, singing valentines, bake sales, and talent shows.

The most popular fundraising products are candles, candy, catalogs, cause related, cheesecake, Christmas, coffee, cookbooks, cookie dough, discount cards, eco friendly, flower bulbs, greeting cards, magazines, online, pasta, popcorn, scratch cards, snacks, special events, spirit, t-shirts, and a wide variety of unique surprises, many of which would be appropriate for Kindergartens.  If you don't find a fundraising idea that appeals to you, check out our complete product and do-it-yourself indexes for a great selection of fundraiser ideas for Kindergartens.

Do-It-Yourself Kindergarten Fundraiser

You can also choose from a wide variety of kindergarten DIY fundraising ideas to supplement your program. How about Pajama Day or Crazy Hat Day, Balloon Bust or thons of every type? Perhaps one of these successful and creative ideas can be adapted for your schools fundraiser.

Trike-a-thon - Hold a fundraising "Trike-a-thon". It is exactly what it sounds like. Make it an athletic challenge where young children get donations per lap that they will ride on their tricycles on a given day or flat donations. Paint a special trike path in your parking lot or use tape on a gymnasium floor. Read more…

Pet Parade - Why have a regular fashion show fundraiser when you can give it a twist? Create a fun event for local kids by hosting a pet pageant. Find an animal-friendly locale (try a local park), and recruit students to show off their pets on the "runway" one weekend afternoon. You can concentrate your publicity on local grade schools or PTAs. Read more…

Children’s Cookbook - Involve the whole school in writing a book of the children's favorite recipes. This is a hilarious and profitable fundraising idea. Ask each child in the school to tell you: 1) What they are going to cook; 2) What ingredients they will need; 3) How do they make their recipe; 4) How do they cook their recipe; 5) Draw a picture of what they want to cook. Write the children's responses down exactly as they tell them to you. Read more…
