Student Council Fundraising Ideas

Student Council is often a young person’s first experience with government. From the Student Body President on down, the Student Council is typically focused, at least part of the time, on fundraising for the school, for an improvement project, new education program, improvements to grounds or services, even improvements to school lunches. Just about every aspect of student life can benefit from a successful fundraising campaign.

One of the biggest decisions is often deciding what type of fundraiser to do. In Kodiak, AK, the Student Council at Kodiak Middle School raised $1,000 selling candy-grams for Valentine’s Day to give electricity to a school in Mali, west Africa. At California State University in Long Beach, the College of Liberal Arts Student Council held a Roaring Twenties Art Auction fundraiser for the spring semester. Fundraisers by other Student Councils include penny drives, pie throws, donation jars, volleyball tournaments, dinners, thons, raffles, dating games, and product sales.
