Do-It-Yourself
Fundraiser Of The Month
Adult Spelling Bee:
Spelling bees can sometimes be torture for students. Why not
consider an adult spelling bee to raise funds and let the
parents see how hard it can be? Most schools hold spelling bees
so setting one up should be fairly easy. Each class can select
three parents to represent them either individually or as a
team. Set an entrance fee per team. The teams are responsible
for getting sponsors to pay the fee (let them see what the kids
have to go through). Allow multiple teams per class to raise
additional funds. |

The
Wounded Warrior
Project seeks to assist those men and women of our armed
forces who have been severely injured during the conflicts in
Iraq, Afghanistan, and other hot spots around the world. Many of
the injuries are traumatic amputations, gunshot wounds, burns
and blast injuries that will retire these brave warriors from
military service. These wounded soldiers will return to civilian
life minus one or more limbs, or with serious wounds or
disfiguring scars, and will face greater challenges today
obtaining assistance and finding opportunities that would enable
them to provide for themselves and their families.

Interesting or Fun Facts
Not all inventions are
created by scientists with frizzy hair and forgetful memories. Frank
Epperson invented the Popsicle in 1905 when he was only 11
years old. One day Frank left his drink outside on
the back porch overnight with the stirring stick still in
it. The temperature dropped to a record low that night and the next
day Frank had a stick of frozen soda water to show his friends at
school. Eighteen years later -
in 1923 - Frank began producing
Epsicles in seven fruit flavors. He
later changed the brand name to "Popsicle", because his
children kept asking for "Pop's 'sicle." One
estimate says three million Popsicle frozen treats are sold each
year. There are more them thirty different flavors to choose from, but
Popsicle Industries says the general flavor favorite through the years
has remained "taste-tingling orange".
