Do-It-Yourself
Fundraiser Of The Month
Best Seat in the House:
This fund raiser
involves raffling off tickets for a student and two friends to
win the best seat in the house for a sporting
event. Tickets are sold throughout the week prior to a
game. Announce the winner just before
a volleyball, basketball,
or football game. The winner gets to
sit on the sofa with two of his or her
friends. Make sure the sofa is in an
ideal spot to view the game. For halftime,
provide pizza and sodas for the winner and guests.
This can be a one-time event or throughout the season. |

There's no limit
to the amount an organization can raise; it depends entirely on
the interest, enthusiasm and
participation of members of the group. Cash:
If a group selects a cash return, they will receive a
check for 5% of the total purchases made by group members and
friends (excluding tax). Food
Certificates: If a group chooses
to receive Food Certificates they will receive an amount equal
to 7% of the total purchases made by group members and friends
(excluding tax). If you have any questions, ask your Jewel
store manager or call the Shop & Share
coordinator at 708-531-6464.

Fundraising for Sport and Recreation
by Dr. William F.
Stier, Jr.
Stier presents a cornucopia of ideas for fundraising events
appropriate for civic clubs, athletic organizations, religious
groups, schools, and even library groups.
Ideas are listed in four categories according to the potential
amounts of money to be generated and range from car washes and cow
drops to fashion shows, house tours, marathon parties, pee wee
wrestling matches, and more. Each event listed notes the potential
net income, complexity of arranging, scheduling criteria, requisite
resources, risk management, permits or
licenses, and hints to make the event successful. There are also
notes about games of chance, alcoholic beverages, sales tax,
permissions needed, and record keeping. Few other titles pull this
type of information together in one place and present it so easily.
You can find a
used copy at Amazon.com for
less than $10.00. |

April Fool's Day:
When the western world employed the Julian calendar, years began on
March 25th. Festivals marking the start of the New Year
were celebrated on the first day of April because March 25th
fell during Holy Week. The adoption of the Gregorian calendar during
the 1500s moved the New Year to January 1st. According to
the most widely-believed origin for April Fools' Day, those who could
be tricked into believing April 1st was still the proper
day to celebrate the New Year earned the title
of April fools. To this end, French peasants would unexpectedly drop
in on neighbors on that day in a effort to confuse them into thinking
they were receiving a New Year's call. Out of that supposedly grew the
tradition of testing the patience of family and friends.
