Do-It-Yourself
Fundraiser Of The Month
Squeegee Day:
Ask people at a local drive thru to donate money to have their
windshields washed. Have one person at the beginning of the
drive thru asking the person if they would like their windshield
washed as a donation to your cause. If they say yes, your
volunteer places a pamphlet under their windshield wiper. Once
they get to the front of the drive and they have a pamphlet
under their wiper, a team of two washes their windshield and
thanks them for their donation. There is much less set-up and
staffing than required for a car wash and you can easily make as
much money. You can have a stated donation amount but you
generally make more money leaving it up to the generosity of the
driver. |

Table to
Table is the first and only food rescue program in
Northeast New Jersey dedicated to redistributing prepared and
perishable foods, serving a population of almost 3 million
people. Believe it or not, people in our own neighborhoods go to
bed hungry. Every day they pick up fresh, wholesome food that
otherwise would have been discarded, and safely deliver it to
soup kitchens, homeless shelters and centers that serve meals to
the hungry. Through efficient and effective operations, the food
is redistributed at a cost to Table to Table of only 11 cents
per meal. |

Interesting or Fun Facts
The first Avon
Lady was actually a man, young door-to-door salesman David McConnell
from upstate New York. At the age of sixteen, McConnell had begun
selling books door-to-door and began offering a complimentary vial of
perfume he had blended to help make more sales. McConnell soon learned
that women adored his perfume but remained indifferent to his books.
Thus, he abandoned books and subsequently launched Avon Calling in
1886, offering women cosmetics in the comfort and privacy of their own
homes. The door-to-door approach seemed tailor-made for cosmetics,
particularly in rural areas, where homemakers, in horse-and-buggy
days, had poor access to better stores.
