Do-It-Yourself Fundraiser Of The Month

An automobile dealer in Northwest Arkansas offered folks a chance to Test Drive their cars. For every mile driven, the company donated a dollar to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. This was an easy fundraiser! Obviously the car dealers want folks to drive their cars in hopes they will make a sale. They do this every day from their showrooms. Since your organization will be providing free advertising and hopefully getting more "test drivers" to their dealership, a local car dealer in your area may offer something similar. Another example ... a school in Princeton County, Kentucky held a “Drive for the Kids” fund-raiser in conjunction with the primary/elementary PTA fall festival. Parents and guardians who test-drove vehicles earned money for the schools. The fund-raiser was sponsored by a local automobile dealer and the manufacturer. The manufacturer donated a fixed amount toward expenses involved in hosting the event to the PTA, plus $5 for each test drive of a vehicle with a completed evaluation form.

Non-Profit In The Spotlight

In 1984, Thomas R. McGehee and his wife, Delia, met a 17-year-old boy who had cystic fibrosis. This young man, George Lee, loved golf. When McGehee learned this, he arranged for George to be paired with Fred Couples and play in the Pro-Am of the TPC. Following an exciting round of play, Couples gave the young man his driver. A year later, George lost his battle with cystic fibrosis. His prized club was buried at his side. That was the beginning of Dreams Come True. In over 23 years, Dreams Come True has made the special desires of more than 2,000 children come true. Dreams provide these wonderful children and their families with a momentary reprieve from the rigors of medical treatment often associated with life-threatening illnesses. A dream temporarily removes the child from doctor visits, hospital stays, tests and needles and brings laughter, joy and childhood to the forefront. Dreams give the children and their families memories to carry them through the rough times and smiles to last a lifetime. Dreams bring hope and the promise of tomorrow.
