Do-It-Yourself Fundraiser Of The Month
One shelter group goes to
a local discount store to
find cute containers they can fill
with Dog Treats. One year they really got
lucky at "only $1" when they found ceramic
containers with paw prints on them. Then they
go to a grocery store and buy some natural
dog treats and put 10-15 depending on size in zip-lock plastic bags
and put them inside the containers. They usually
end up with less than $2.00 in each container and sell them for $10.
They have lots of teens and pre-teens who
are willing to do fundraisers for them, so
they have them take about 25
containers and set up in front of different
stores or during different community events. If the teens are pretty
good at talking to people, they usually end up selling most or all of
them, so it's a very easy $150-200 bucks (net), plus it helps to get
their name out to more people. They
always give out brochures about their
shelter while they are out there so they get
more bang for their buck. |

Interesting or Fun Facts
The March of The Peabody Ducks in Memphis,
Tennessee, has performed 365 days a year for over 76 years in the Lobby of
The Peabody Memphis Hotel. Just before 11am each morning, a 50-foot red carpet
is laid out, stretching from the hotel elevators to the marble fountain in the
lobby. The Peabody Duck Master escorts the ducks from the Royal Duck Palace on
the hotel's roof, to an elevator specially reserved for them. With all the pomp
and circumstance of a royal event, the five Mallards, one drake and four hens,
with their red-and-gold jacketed Duck Master, emerge from their elevator to the
music of John Philip Sousa's King Cotton March. They march on the red carpet,
then mount three steps into the fountain, where they splash and
preen for
the day. At 5pm, the procedure reverses and the ducks ceremoniously return to
their penthouse palace.
