Do-It-Yourself Fundraiser Of The Month
The Coventry Myton
Hospice Appeal in the United Kingdom raised significant funds selling
raffle tickets for the right to press the button to demolish the
Foleshill gas tower, a local landmark. Think of how many old
buildings, hotels, bridges, arenas, stadiums, etc that are demolished
each year. You see the pictures replayed on television repeatedly. How
much would you pay for a raffle ticket where the winner will press the
button to demolish a football stadium that is being replaced? How many
tickets do you think you could sell? Your only cost
for a Blow It Up fundraiser is the advertising and
raffle tickets. You could undoubtedly get plenty of media exposure
which would help ticket sales and publicize your organization or
cause. If it's a significant landmark, you could attract ticket
purchasers from across the country. While
the principle is simple, convincing the property owner and/or local
government officials to let your group do this may not be easy.
However, it's an idea that is certainly worth pursuing since it offers
the chance for your organization to raise significant funds without a
large expenditure on your part. |

races
from
A
Nite At The Races are
audience-participation events where actual races are shown to
your audience to re-create the atmosphere of being at the race
track.
All races show a parade to the post,
loading in the gate, split screen cinematography,
horses in the lead graphics, toteboard
results, the winners circle, slow-motion photo finish replays,
full graphic of the results of each race, and
commentary by actual race track
announcers. Imagine the reaction of
your audience as they root, cheer, and shout for their
favorite horses from the start of the race to the finish line.

Non-Profit In The Spotlight
A Soldier's Wish
List was established to support our troops who are
serving overseas. We are involved with troopers deployed in
Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Kosovo, South Korea and Qatar. Our
goal is to fulfill the wishes of our troops to the best of our
abilities. This is our small way of letting our brave troopers
know that we care about them and appreciate their sacrifices. We
conduct fundraisers, sell merchandise, and collect donations to
finance sending care packages to our troops. We also match
troopers to volunteers who would like send care packages to
their own "adopted" trooper.

Interesting or Fun Facts
The sandwich was
named after the 4th Earl of Sandwich, an 18th-century English
aristocrat, although it is unlikely to have been invented by him.
Indeed, a form of sandwich is attributed to the ancient Jewish sage Hillel the Elder, who is said to have put meat from the Paschal lamb
and bitter herbs inside matzo (or flat bread) during Passover.
However, crediting any single person with the invention of the
sandwich is arguably similar to crediting someone with the invention
of the wheel since they are both highly likely to have been thought of
independently by different minds. It is said
that Lord Sandwich was fond of this form of food because it allowed
him to continue playing cards at cribbage while eating, because he did
not want to get his cards sticky, from eating meat with his bare
hands. The Earldom refers to the English town of Sandwich in Kent —
from the Old English Sandwic, meaning "sand place". Nowadays some
types of sandwiches are too unwieldy to be held in one hand, thus
defeating Lord Sandwich's original purpose, and must be eaten with a
knife and fork, or at least with both hands. However, the generally
recognized way to eat a sandwich is with one's hands. Eating a
sandwich with cutlery arguably defeats the purpose of this specific
food.
