SGA Fundraising Ideas

The mission of the Student Government Association (SGA), is to provide students with representation, services and advocacy within the university or high school structure. After the elections are over and you have your Class President, Treasurer, etc., you might think, now what? Most SGA get involved with fundraising for their graduation class, for dances, for trips, for school projects. Other SGA’s hold a fundraiser to help out a fellow student or a teacher in need or for a local charity.

One of the biggest decisions is often deciding what type of fundraiser to do. In Chelmsford, MA, in its continuing efforts to raise funds and awareness of the battle against kids’ cancer, members of the Chelmsford High School Student Council hosted its annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand fundraiser. In New Jersey, Watchung Hills Regional High School sponsored a Liccardi Ford fundraiser, in which the SGA received $20 for each test drive. Fundraisers by other Student Government Associations (SGA) include date auctions, product sales, car washes, yoga classes, restaurant nights, spinning classes, raffles, bike shows, penny drives, garage sales, and donation jars.

Do-It-Yourself SGA Fundraiser

You can also choose from a wide variety of SGA DIY fundraising ideas to supplement your program. How about Redneck Games, Barrels for Education, Literacy Day, Sticky Fly, or thons of every type? Perhaps one of these successful and creative ideas can be adapted for your SGA fundraiser.

Teacher Torture – For this fundraiser, the school principal picks as many teachers as he/she feels will willingly participate - no party poopers! The principal also has to play (to be fair of course). The principal then selects an "appropriate" activity that each teacher has to do such as: kiss a pig, color hair a wild color, dress outrageously, roller skate, etc. Be creative! Have fun! The teachers vote on what the principal has to do. Read more…

Stair Climb - Almost 1,000 climbers in Calgary Canada, made the 12th annual thigh-testing trek up Calgary Tower's 27 flights of stairs as a fundraiser to help the Alberta Wilderness Association protect the environment. Read more…

Best Legs - Both guys and gals can have pictures of their legs posted around the campus for this fundraiser. People vote on who has the "best legs" by making a donation. All entries will be placed in a central box from where the winner's name will be drawn. Read more…
