ROTC, NROTC & JROTC Fundraising Ideas

Founded in 1926, ROTC stands for Reserve Officer Training Corps. It’s a college program offered at more than 1,000 colleges and universities across the United States that prepares young adults to become officers in the U.S. Military. Each branch of the military has its own take on ROTC. NRTOC is the Navy ROTC, for example. JROTC is the “Junior” ROTC program, which can begin in high school. Many ROTC groups hold a fundraiser for their communities and for scholarships. Fundraising is challenging, but it teaches values the ROTC stand for.

One of the biggest decisions is often deciding what type of fundraiser to do. The Michigan City High School Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps assisted VFW Post 2536 with their annual Poppy Day sale fundraiser. A Chicago ROTC unit showed its sense of humor with its womanless wedding Spring fundraiser.  Fundraisers by other ROTC, NROTC & JROTC groups include cow patty bingo, dinners, raffles, yard sales, product sales, and donation drives.

Movie Night – Many organizations rent a movie and hold movie night fundraising events. This works especially well if you have a large room and projection/large screen TV.
