Rugby Fundraising Ideas

Rugby is a style of football named after Rugby School in the United Kingdom. It is seen most prominently in two current sports, rugby league and rugby union, which play by different rules. Rugby has caught on in North America in a big way over the last couple of decades. Rugby teams may hold a fundraisers for local charities as well as to buy new equipment, uniforms and make field improvements. Fundraising can be challenging, but it can also be fun.

One of the biggest decisions is often deciding what type of fundraiser to do. In East Lansing, MI, the Michigan State University women’s rugby team hosted its third annual breast cancer awareness game fundraiser, giving all proceeds to the Michigan Breast Cancer Coalition. In Milles, UK, Armed Forces charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers played the longest game of rugby EVER as a fundraiser for kids orphaned by war. Players dueled for over 25 grueling hours, non-stop, and set a new world record. Fundraisers by other Rugby teams include quiz nights, exhibition matches, restaurant nights, discount movie tickets, comedy nights, thons, auctions, raffles, dinners, and car washes.
