Skating Team Fundraising Ideas

Whether you’re into speed skating, figure skating or synchronized skating, chances are your skating team will need to do some fundraising for new equipment, costumes, rink rental fees or venue improvements. Fundraising can be challenging but it can also be fun.

One of the biggest decisions is often deciding what type of fundraiser to do. In Nelson, Alberta, skaters embraced the spirit of disco as they participated in the Nelson Figure Skating Club’s annual skate-a-thon fundraiser. In Great Falls, MT, Participants put on their dancing shoes, grabbed a partner and headed out to the inaugural Rockin’ The Ryan on the Mighty Mo fundraiser featuring dance instruction. Fundraisers by other Skating teams include private lessons, competitions, ice shows, product sales, car washes, restaurant nights, raffles, thons, and sales of spirit items.

Think of the funny messages/instructions that you can include … “Easy to Grow – Fun to Eat”, “You Must believe! If nothing grows, you end up with doughnut holes”, etc. Read more…

Gift-wrapping – Get in touch with a store or mall in your area and ask about setting up a gift-wrapping fundraising booth for their customers for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and/or Christmas. Just like regular gift wrapping stations, you can charge different amounts for different levels of wrapping. Read more…

Raffle Table – Our variation on a fundraising raffle is to have a table of donated items. Our members donate new items they have received as gifts but don’t want, things they have made with their special talents (i.e.- hand-made jewelry, baked goods, clothing, etc.), items donated from local businesses, and certificates for free admission to future lodge events or services (such as baby sitting or house-cleaning). Read more…
