Blind Kickball Fundraiser

This game is meant to increase awareness of the struggles of the blind. Or it can be played with actual blind people for the same purpose. The game is simple and would work with any group of 18+. The rules are the same as kickball (3 outs/inning, foul balls, force outs, etc.). The twist is that the students play with a partner and one is blindfolded (or actually blind). At bat, the seeing player kicks the ball, but the blind player runs the bases. The seeing player can run alongside and coach, but may not touch the runner. In the field, the seeing player can catch or stop the ball, but not throw or tag a runner.

They CAN, however, touch their own blind partner to guide them to throw the ball or lead them to tag the runner.  Players can alternate being blindfolded each inning if not playing with actual blind people). You can charge admission to watch and/or participate as fundraiser. There are several YouTube videos you can watch to get a better idea.  The Point: Trust, faith, helping each other along in our faith journeys.

Variation: Create an obstacle course (a playground works great) and get your students or leaders to go in pairs. One from each pair is blindfolded, and the other will lead him or her through the obstacle course by using only their voice. The Point: Team building; a good game for a leadership event.

We have included a number of do-it-yourself fundraising ideas in this section that offer a break from traditional product sales.  They were developed by groups just like yours in an attempt have a little fun with their fundraiser. Some of them are tried and true while others show a lot of creativity … and even wackiness in some cases.  All of them are obviously not appropriate for every group, but sometimes, with only a little modification, your might find some fund raising ideas that are perfect for your group. If you have an idea for a do-it-yourself fund raiser you are willing to share with others, please send it to us via email. Include anything and everything you would want to know if you were hearing the idea for the first time.
