In Rockland, Maine, seven police
officers and one first responder walked into a Tim Hortons doughnut shop — and
kicked powdered sugar in the face of one of the country’s most enduring
stereotypes.Once again, none of the officers won
the second annual Law Enforcement Donut Eating Contest, a title that was
carried away on the massive shoulders of Justin Hills of Camden First Aid.Whoever ate six doughnuts the fastest
would win the contest, which was
designed to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics of Maine.A donations jar at Tim Hortons raised more than $130 at the scene, and
the snazzy red T-shirts that advertised the event were selling briskly for the
bargain price of $10. The restaurant echoed with
laughter, applause and cheers during the three competitions — among law
enforcement, among six Special Olympians and then among three owners or
managers of Tim Hortons restaurants in Maine.
We have included a number of do-it-yourself fundraising ideas in this
section such as a Doughnut Eating Contest that offer a break from
traditional product sales. They were developed by groups just
like yours in an attempt have a little fun with their fundraiser. Some
of them are tried and true while others show a lot of creativity ...
and even wackiness in some cases. All of them are obviously not
appropriate for every group, but sometimes, with only a little
modification, your might find some fund raising ideas that are perfect
for your group. If you have an idea for a do-it-yourself fund raiser
you are willing to share with others, please send it to us via email
