Students at the Block Island Early Learning Center donned their bicycle helmets and climbed aboard their bikes to help in a fundraising event to raise money for children with cancer. They were participating a Trike-A-Thon fundraiser for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The Trike-A-Thon, which was held inside because of inclement weather, had the children taking turns riding around the "track," a circle taped to the school floor. Music and refreshments helped the bikers keep up their momentum for the two-hour fundraiser, which lasted "from 10 a.m. till 12 noon, or until they got tired — whichever came first.

Miles Robertson, almost three-years-old, kept his little legs pumping for 41 laps, stopped to replenish with some lemonade and kept on riding. Robertson, one of almost 50 children, participated in the annual fundraising Trike-A-Thon held to raise needed funds for the Cal State Fullerton Children’s Center held in one of the campus parking lots. The event raised money by collecting pledge money from family and friends. Supporters could either pledge per lap or offer a flat pledge of a specific amount. Children as young as 10 months to as old as six years participated. Oldies blared over the loud speaker as the children rounded the track on their bicycles, tricycles and push-toys. Smaller children stayed on the inside of the track, so they would not cross into the path of the older bicycle riders. After the siren sounded, the children pedaled around the track furiously, occasionally taking a break at the “Thirst Aid” to quench their thirst with water or lemonade.

Variation: This can also be done as a fun contest for older children or even adults.  It's really funny to watch.  Maybe combine the two and end your fundraising Trike-A-Thon on a hilarious note with a race between parents using their children's tricycles!
