Fundraising News From Around the World. It contains summaries and photos of fundraising activities
by other groups such as yours. Some are
traditional, some are unusual, and some are totally bizarre! We hope

Needham, MA - Sporting a sea of red,
black, blue, and many other colors, Westwood High School
students showcased their best formal styles for the Senior
Prom Fashion Show. The annual event is the single largest
fundraiser for the Senior Grad Party, and seniors sign up
each time to walk the stage of the Westwood High School
auditorium, transformed for this one night into a
red-carpeted fashion showcase. During the show, students
walked, strutted, or danced onto the stage in twos and
threes, posing for the crowd and sharing their advice for
the underclassmen. |
Boston, MA - If you are in the
Boston area on Saturday, join the Boston University of
Arizona Alumni group as they gather for their annual
fundraising event. This is a celebration for Wildcat
alumni who are participating in the world famous Boston
Marathon. All of the proceeds go to the Beantown Cats
scholarship fund which is awarded each year to incoming
UA freshmen. Be sure to save the date and spend the
night with fellow Wildcat Alumni. |

Kingston, MA - The Kingston
Public Library Foundation will officially launch its
capital campaign with a special fundraising event at the
Jones River Trading Co. All community members are
invited to attend. The focus of this gala is on fun and
the event will be complete with live music, silent and
live auctions, a dinner and plenty of opportunity to
socialize. |
Sugar City, ID - Upper Valley
young girls may make princess dreams come true for a day
thanks to Princess Day via the Sugar-Salem High School
Drama Department. The drama department plans to host the
fundraising event Saturday, at the school's auditorium.
There drama students will transform little girls into
princesses and bestow upon them a crown and have
princess activities. . The event is held to help raise
funds for the annual National Speech and Debate
Association to be held in Birmingham. This year four
young women from Robinson's classes qualified to compete
during the competition's speech interpretation and oral
interpretation events. |

Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls
area CASA program started their annual Red Cape event Monday
but this year, it's not a formal event. The non-profit
decided to do the fundraising event virtually. CASA stands
for Court Appointed Special Advocates for children. The
organization gives a voice for abused and neglected kids. It
is comprised completely of volunteers. Their Red Cape Event
used to be something people could attend at a local venue,
but this year the executive director decided to change it.
It's now a virtual fundraising event that people can just
visit online. People can donate at their specially designed
website until Friday. |
Sturgis, SD - Black Hills Trails is
hosting a fundraiser Saturday at the Sturgis City Armory.
Organizers say all volunteers, donors, land managers, trail
users, and the interested public are invited to celebrate
the accomplishments of the organization in 2016. This
celebration is free to the public, come prepared to snack,
have a drink, and add to the growing momentum by purchasing
limited edition items and participating in the silent
auction. |

Pocatello, ID - Dan Harrison of
Pocatello can finally get out of his 2000 Geo Metro with
over 160,000 miles that he was using to commute back and
forth to his place of employment in Blackfoot after winning
a brand-new Dodge Dart that Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge of
Pocatello recently donated to a Pocatello/Chubbuck School
District 25 fundraising event. As part of a fundraising
event unlike any the district has cooperated with in the
past, the general manager of Lithia, Reid Garrett, and his
staff donated the car outright to the district and paid for
the printing of 30,000 raffles tickets for students to sell. |
Lewes, DE - It was said that it
would be impossible to re-create the success of the
first year, but this year’s guest bartender night at
Fish On in Lewes for Children and Families First proved
everyone wrong, matching last year's fundraising total.
Through bartender tips and a 50/50 raffle, Children and
Families First received $14,475 in total donations.
Bartenders were sent behind the bar in teams of two or
three, with the end goal being to raise the most money
in tips during their 30-minute shifts. |

Bowling Green, KY - Today, WKU
sororities and fraternities will be opening their houses to
the public as a joint fundraising project. The WKU Greek
Homearama includes tours of different Greek houses and is
open to WKU students and Bowling Green community members for
$5. The funds from the Homearama will be going towards the
Circle of Sisterhood, which is a national non-profit group.
The purpose of the organization is to remove barriers to
women’s education around the world by donating school
supplies and materials to those who need it. |
Spartanburg, SC - The Gamma Mu
Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority brought the
Harlem Renaissance to life at a fundraising event
Saturday night on the campus of the University of South
Carolina Upstate. Performers from Spartanburg showcased
their talents in poetry, singing and dance during
“Harlem Renaissance and Beyond - Celebration in Poetry
and Song.” Many of the spectators dressed in 1920s-era
clothing or in old fraternity and sorority jackets or
sweaters. |

Liverpool, UK - Adventurers can make
a splash for charity this month at a boat hire day in Upton
Warren, with visitors offered a special cut-price discount.
The fundraising event is being held at Aztec and offers
visitors the chance to enjoy kayaking, stand-up paddle
boards, canoeing, and pedal boats. Organizer Fran Fleming,
18, who is a student at the University of Liverpool, hopes
her event will raise money towards a volunteer scheme in
Tanzania. She said: “The scheme aims to improve local
people's understanding of markets and how to make a
sustainable income so that poverty can be reduced. |
Pittsburgh, PA - The Schenley Oval
was full of runners, jumpers, erg rowers and shot putters
competing in the sun in Sunday’s UNcathlon. Fifteen teams of
six, each including one Special Olympian, competed in 10
sports events at Schenley Park in Oakland and could gain
more points through an 11th event - fundraising. The
UNcathlon was a benefit for Special Olympics Pennsylvania,
which seeks “to provide year-round sports training and
competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children
and adults with intellectual disabilities,” according to its
website. |

Hastings, MN - There will be a
5K walk/fun run, silent auction and open house
extravaganza at Wishbone Ranch with all proceeds
benefitting This Old Horse, a nonprofit that provides
sanctuary to retired, rescued and recovering horses.
This Old Horse is a nonprofit founded in 2012 to care
for aging horses by providing sanctuary to retired,
rescued and recovering horses. This Old Horse is the
first equine sanctuary in Minnesota to be accredited by
the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and one of
only about 30 in the United States. |
Marietta, GA - Cyclists will have
the opportunity this year to participate in Ovarian Cancer
Research Fund Alliance’s Ovarian Cycle, an indoor cycling
event to raise money for much-needed ovarian cancer
research. The CYCLEBAR location in East Cobb/Marietta will
host the fundraising events in the city where this
nationally renowned fundraising event began. Participants in
OCRFA’s Ovarian Cycle event pedal toward a healthier body
while simultaneously raising money for this worthy cause. |

Norman, OK - Oklahoma singer,
songwriter, entertainer and philanthropist Toby Keith
announced will host the 14th Annual Toby Keith & Friends
Golf Classic Fundraiser at Belmar Golf Club and
Riverwind Casino in his hometown of Norman. Last year
the two-day fundraising event raised $1.175 million for
the Toby Keith Foundation, which funnels the funds
directly to operation of the 3-year-old OK Kids Korral,
a facility offering a home away from home for sick
children and families seeking treatment in Oklahoma
City. The Korral is completely cost-free to families who
stay. |
White Pass, WA - Hundreds of
spectators, participants and staff attended White Pass Ski
Area’s Pond Skim fundraising event, benefiting the ski
patrol program, at White Pass, Washington, Saturday.
Participants, often dressed in outlandish costumes, would
ski or snowboard down a hill and try their luck at making it
across a pool of water as spectators gathered around the
pool. |

Jacksonville, FL - It's been more
than three weeks since the wildfire in Bryceville burned
hundreds of acres and forced dozens of evacuations. Now that
the fire is contained, Nassau County came together to have a
fundraiser for families impacted. They also invited first
responders to the event to enjoy a free meal. BBQ chicken
and pork was on the menu at a fundraising event benefiting
those impacted by the wildfire that swept through Bryceville
last month. |
Eastwood, OH - The Miracle
League of Lake County, is hosting the First Pitch
Fundraiser to generate the money needed to build the
universally adapted baseball playing field and
playground at Classic Park in Eastlake. The playing
field and playground are designed to allow special-needs
children the opportunity to play baseball and play with
less risk of injury by playing on a special rubberized
turf designed to accommodate wheelchairs and other
needed devices. The event will include a 50/50 raffle,
$3 and $5 side boards with $300 and $500 payouts, a
double reverse raffle, silent auction and Chinese
auction. Chinese auction tickets to be sold at 26 for
$5. |

Cincinnati, OH - One University
of Cincinnati doctoral student's dream of a museum to
document one of Cincinnati’s historic neighborhoods will
get a bit of a financial boost Wednesday with a
fundraising event set for Wednesday. The event, “Three
Musical Acts in Over-the-Rhine,” will be staged at the
recently restored Woodward Theater. Billed as “a night
of music and stories.” Accompanying the event will be a
silent auction, offering items such as art by local
artists, catered food, theater tickets and historic
Cincinnati tours. |
Bloomington, IN - An upcoming
fundraising event will allow Stepping Stones, a local
nonprofit, to expand its hours, provide more services to
homeless youth and recognize professionals who work with
youth. Step Up for Stepping Stones is a fundraising
event for the organization’s transitional housing. The
event takes place Thursday at Upland Brewery Banquet
Hall. Tickets are $30, and Upland will provide hors
d’oeuvres and an open bar. The recipients of the Benham
Award, which is given to youth service professionals in
the community, will also be recognized. |

Picayune, MS - Parents and
community members will have an opportunity to
participate in a fundraising event that will feature a
play and silent auction to benefit Heritage Christian
Academy. The event will be held Friday at The Link.
Tickets to attend the event are $10, which will cover
admission and a bag of popcorn, said Morgan Altom, who
is co-directing a play the students will put on during
the event. Additional food items will be available for
purchase. The play is called “Mother Goose Has Flown the
Coop” and it will include references to 28 nursery
rhymes. |
Bridegeport, WV - Along the
riverfront, WVU's Council for Women's Concerns held its
second annual Champagne for SANES fundraising event.
SANES are sexual assault nurse examiners. These nurses
are trained to help victims of sexual assault through
compassionate and competent medical patient care. With
April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the group
hopes to bring awareness to those nurses and help expand
their training. While the first step is free and online,
the other training can be costly. Organizers hope this
event can bring in money to help more complete the
training. |

Lansing, MI - Players will join
together for the 8th annual Battlefield Brawl, to
fundraise for local charities and non-profits to give
back to the community. The flag football fundraiser is a
day-long tournament with local athletes and public
figures, battling it out for a good cause. The event is
at Marshall Park in Lansing. This year’s funds will
benefit New World Flood, The Davies Project and House of
Promise. |
Beckley, WV - “Good food for a
good cause.” That’s how Dee Sizemore, director of public
relations and fundraising for the Women’s Resource
Center, describes Celebrity Night. This is the 28th year
for the event, which began as a fundraiser for the WRC
in 1989. The fundraising event, featuring area
celebrities from all walks of life waiting tables at
participating restaurants, grew steadily through the
years, but in the early part of the 2000s, the United
Way of Southern West Virginia came on board as the
organizer as the WRC’s staff could no longer maintain
the effort. This year, however, the United Way has
handed control back to the WRC, which will again receive
all proceeds. |

Sarasota, FL - Please join
Christie Rosen, local yoga instructor, wellness coach
and author of the new book Empowering the Sensitive Soul
for a donation based gentle yoga class and book signing
event Saturday at Pineapple Yoga Studio. All donations
will directly support Girls Inc. Sarasota, a local
non-profit dedicated to empowering girls to be strong,
self-confident and well rounded individuals. The yoga
class will be suitable for all levels. Afterward there
will be a book signing, time to mingle and complimentary
snacks and drinks. |
Salem, NH - Laps4Backs, a
charity donating toys to hospitalized children and
operated by a 12-year-old Haverhill girl, is having an
all-smiles fundraiser Sunday. Noelle Gregoire found her
spirits were lifted when she received a toy after
particularly difficult treatments at Tufts Hospital,
Boston. She began the charity though when she discovered
a shortage of donated toys meant other children would
have to go without the little, uplifting rewards. At 9
years old, she began Laps4Backs, swimming across
Province Lake in East Wakefield, N.H., to raise money
for toys. Since then, she has donated more than 20,000
toys to hospitalized children. Her fundraiser takes
place Sunday at AmVets Hall. The entry fee is a toy or
$5. The event features music, dancing, crafts, face
painting, a photo booth and raffles. |

Plymouth, MA - Plymouth North High
School will host the Plymouth Public School’s third annual
Empty Bowls fundraising event by teaming up against hunger
with South Shore Community Action Council on May 4. “Empty
Bowls” is an international movement in which local
communities seek to raise awareness about hunger worldwide
while raising funds for area food pantries. Hundreds of
potters, craftspeople, teachers, students and area seniors
hand-decorated over 300 ceramic bowls at Plymouth North High
School, Plymouth South High School and Claychick studio.
These pieces of art will be handed out to the guests at the
event as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. |
Lebanon, OR - The Heart of the
Valley Children's Choir will hold its annual fundraising
event Saturday at the Corvallis Country Club. Carol
Nelson, the choir's director, said the event, "Let the
Children Sing," raises money for tuition scholarships
and the organization's Kathy Egan Medearis Tour
Scholarship Fund. The event will feature a keynote
speech from Sara Nelson, who used to sing in the choir
and now is the international president of the
International Association of Flight Directors. Also on
tap: performances from the choir's two a cappella
groups, along with hors d’oeuvres, beverages, raffle
baskets and live auctions. |

Scottsdale, AZ - A special April
29 fundraising event in Scottsdale featuring food
competitions between celebrity chefs and drink samples,
aims to please guests stomach while raising money for
medical research through the Beer for Brains Foundation.
EPICURIAD – Best Food, Craft Beer and Wine Pairing event
will be on Saturday, April 29 in Scottsdale. At the
Spring EPICURIAD there will be a new twist and
award-winning street food chefs will get out of their
trucks and into the kitchen to go head to head in this
gourmet pairing competition, according to a press
release. |
Gore Bay, ON - There was a lot
of jumping going on at Charles C. McLean Elementary
School in Gore Bay last Friday. Grade 3-6 students at
the school had been gearing up for the past few weeks
for their participation in the Jump Rope For Heart
fundraising event to get in shape and raise funds for
the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The funds raised by the
students from the Jump Rope for Heart event go to the
Heart and Stroke Foundation. The 45 students raised a
total of $4,475.59. |
