Fundraising News From Around the World. It contains summaries and photos of fundraising activities
by other groups such as yours. Some are
traditional, some are unusual, and some are totally bizarre! We hope
that you will find each issue interesting. You can subscribe at the

South Bend, IN - In less than a
week, a fundraising event will take place to help put smiles
on children's faces. This is the sixth year of "Bears in the
Air," put on by the South Bend International Airport. A
kickoff party is taking place Friday. Admission is $15 and
will give a bear to a child in one of several area
hospitals. Funds will also go to veterans at the Robert L.
Miller, Sr. Veteran's Center. At the event, there will be
light refreshments, cocktails, music and door prizes,
including a $350 gift certificate for Four Winds Casino and
roundtrip airfare from Delta. |

Longmont, CO - The advent of the
holiday season means that it’s time for the library’s
annual Light-a-Candle celebration. In its 33rd year, the
Light-a-Candle fundraising event is an opportunity to
give a gift to your library for the whole community to
enjoy. Just visit the Library lobby during the event and
purchase a book to be added to the Library’s collection.
A special “book plate” is placed inside the book cover
to honor and identify the donor, and an ornament with
the donor’s name is hung on the Light-a-Candle Tree that
decorates the Library lobby during the holiday season. |
Twin Falls, ID - Interlink
Volunteer Caregivers held its 2nd annual unique
fundraising event this fall. Participants were made up
of four or five member teams who competed against each
other, combining bowling and ping pong, to determine a
tournament champion. Twin Falls Chamber of Commerce’s
team “The Ambassadors” is the 2017 Bowl Pong Tournament
champion.“Our generous community rallied behind this fun
event raising funds for IVC’s cause of assisting
elderly, disabled and chronically ill citizens,” stated
Interlink Volunteer Caregivers executive director Edie
Schab. |

Chicago, IL - A Celebration
ExPIERience, the first fundraising event ever hosted by
Navy Pier, celebrated the conclusion of its 100th
anniversary and raised funds for its free public arts
and cultural programs. The evening honored the Polk
Bros. Foundation and provided unique experiences for
more than 600 guests, including fireworks, trolley
rides, Chicago-inspired food and captivating
performances from local artists. |
Hadley, MA - Quakers, Muslims,
Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Buddhists, Unitarian
Universalists - and people who don’t fit any particular
category - came together Sunday evening to throw a
fundraiser to help the Hampshire Mosque open its doors on
Russell St. Representatives of 42 businesses, artists and
nonprofits helped sponsor the event. The fundraiser took
place at the Wesley United Methodist Church and included a
silent auction, a feast with many international cuisines, a
presentation called “Faces of Islam,” and a detailing of the
new mosque’s architecture and features. |

New Baltimore, MI - The holiday
ritual of decorating Christmas trees has additional
special meaning for Susan DiPace, who lost her husband
10 years ago to cancer. DiPace volunteers for the
American Cancer Society and decorates Christmas trees as
a fundraiser for a Relay For Life of New Baltimore team.
“I feel like this is a really near and dear issue to my
heart,” she said. “All of us know that we have suffered
at the hands of cancer.” 150 uniquely decorated and
themed trees of varying sizes and price ranges will be
for sale at Thee Holiday Soiree, the team’s fundraising
event. Yearlong donations assist in funding the tree
décor. |
Wright, Ireland - There's a unique
fundraising event happening in the Wright venue for a very
worthy cause. Over the past seven weeks, men and women have
taken on the task of learning how to box in order to partake
in this white-collar boxing event to raise money in aid of
Spinal Injuries Ireland. The White Collar Boxing Night has
been organized by Lee Kenny to raise money to help those and
their families who have been affected by spinal injuries. |

Topeka, KS - CASA kicked off
their signature fundraising event Friday night at the
Topeka Country Club. Supporters of the 30th annual CASA
Homes for the Holidays Tour were invited to a special
thank you party. The tour runs from 10:00 a.m., to 5:00
p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $15 dollars and
get you into all five homes, decked out in beautiful
holiday decor. All the proceeds help pair children in
the foster care system, with CASA volunteers who
advocate and provide a voice for them in the court
system. |
Carlisle, MA - On Saturday morning,
more than two dozen Manning School of Business students were
out raising awareness – and more than $2,000 – for a good
cause. Led by the new club Manning Women in Business, the
students participated in the fifth annual Walk & Wag for
Veterans fundraiser at Great Brook Farm State Park in nearby
Carlisle. The Veterans Day event raises money for Operation
Delta Dog, a Chelmsford-based nonprofit that rescues
homeless dogs and trains them to be assistance dogs for
veterans who are suffering from post-traumatic stress
disorder, traumatic brain injury and other challenges. |

Bemidji, MN - As in years past,
students are at the forefront of the annual Marketplace
Foods "Stuff-A-Truck" fundraiser for the Bemidji
Community Food Shelf. The program, now in its 26th year,
started in October when empty boxes were taken to area
schools, giving students time to fill them with assorted
groceries or donate cash. Those boxes were picked up on
Wednesday and today to be unloaded at the food shelf. |
Hutchinson, MN - The 1st-annual
Hutchinson girls’ hockey teddy bear toss is slated for
Friday, when the ninth-ranked Hutch Tigers host the Marshall
Tigers. Attendees are encouraged to bring a teddy bear or
stuffed animal to donate to Toys for Tots. After Hutch
scores their first goal of the game, the teddy bears are
thrown onto the ice to be collected for donation. In
addition Saturday, the team participates in the Unified
Dance Marathon at the Mall of America, a fundraising event
that benefits Special Olympics of Minnesota. |

Bloomington, IN - Born in
Bloomington on Nov. 22, 1899, Hoagy Carmichael composed
several hundred songs in his lifetime, including 50 that hit
record status. Community radio station WFHB will celebrate
Carmichael’s birthday with a fundraising event Nov. 16 at
the Fountain Square Ballroom. The concept of the show is to
have present-day Bloomington musicians interpreting the
music of Hoagy Carmichael. |
Ontario, OR - The countdown
begins for an annual fundraiser benefitting local
families and individuals who are elderly or shut-in.
Festival of Trees, a longtime charity event hosted at
the Clarion Inn, offers support to the Home Delivered
Meals - Malheur County’s Meals on Wheels program - and
Help Them To Hope through the sale of decorated
Christmas trees and holiday items, as well as admission. |

Chippewa Falls, WI - The Chippewa
Falls Youth Football organization will be hosting a
fundraiser on Sunday to benefit its CFYF Capital Funds and
Sustainability Campaign. The kickoff party, which is a 21
and older event, will be hosted at Loopy’s Grill & Saloon in
Chippewa Falls from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday to coincide with
the Packers game against Chicago. Tickets are $25. There
will be door prizes, silent auctions and raffles at the
party. |
Lancaster, PA - Star Wars fans
in Pennsylvania are gearing up for an out-of-this-world
fundraising drive. The Extraordinary Give is a 24 hour
event in which people can donate to their favorite
non-profits. In anticipation, the Lancaster Science
Factory is hosting a week long “Science of Star Wars”
event that aims to promote science education. Some Jedi
Knights from the Capital City Jedi Knights were on hand
to show off their lightsaber skills. |

Las Cruces, CA - A local lounge is
hosting an event Saturday, to benefit Las Cruces-area
nonprofits. Help Halos to Help One to Help All will benefit
the Boys and Girls Club of Las Cruces, Mesilla Valley CASA
and St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. The event begins at
noon at Halos Ultra Lounge. The fundraiser begins with Zumba,
followed by HD2 dancers, local bands, performers and DJs.
There will be raffle items and free food inside the venue. |
Glace Bay, NS - For anyone who has
driven by beautifully decorated homes at Christmas wishing
for a peek inside - here’s your chance. Sheila
O’Brien-MacDonald of Dominion has organized Dashing Through
the Homes, a fundraiser for the Savoy Theatre which will
take place on Nov. 30 from 6-9 p.m. “It’s a great event to
bring people out to the Savoy and get them in the Christmas
spirit,” she said. “People also like to see how other people
decorate. Many are stepping away from the traditional red
and green at Christmas and are expanding their creative
expression.” |

Tuscaloosa, AL - The West
Alabama Food Bank will host its second annual All Aboard
fundraising event Thursday night at the Tuscaloosa River
Market. The train-themed culinary event Thursday is
meant to raise money for and awareness of the West
Alabama Food Bank and its mission to provide fresh,
healthy food to the hungry in and around Tuscaloosa. |
Algiers, LA - The seventh annual
FORESTival, a fundraiser for A Studio in the Woods,
takes place Saturday, Nov. 11, with new and returning
events. FORESTival appeals to a wide audience, with
activities specifically for children and ones meant for
adults, such as those that showcase the creative work
inspired by the grounds, said residency technician Grace
Rennie. Then, the allure of almost 8 acres of bottomland
hardwood forest in Algiers is attractive on its own. |

Jonesboro, AR - The Junior
Auxiliary Crown Club hosted an event for little
princesses on Sunday. The group held Tiara Time, their
biggest fundraiser of the year. More than 50 little
princesses attended the event where they got to mingle
with "grown-up princesses" like Jasmine and Snow White.
The money raised at the event helps the group give back
to the Jonesboro community. |
Los Angeles, CA - The Kitty
Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats is throwing a
three-day meower of a fundraiser, all to help furry
littles needing a home. Day one of the fundraising fun,
which pads upon tiny paws from Friday through Sunday is
an art opening at MorYork. “Check out our favorite
artists, cat lovers one and all, who generously donated
their pieces to help the plight of homeless cats,"
suggests the Kitty Bungalow people. The remainder of the
weekend brings all sort of whiskery whimsy, from
Crafting with Kittens to a Poetry Slam to Coffee with
Kittens. |

Frankfort, KY - Local members
and supporters of Arc of Kentucky gathered Saturday
afternoon, for an afternoon of fun and fundraising to
help the state chapter of this non-profit volunteer
organization in its mission to assist families and
individuals deal with intellectual and developmental
disabilities. The event featured a walk-a-thon as well
as a silent auction, obstacle course, a slide, various
games and an activity center featuring basketball,
baseball and football-related events. |
Las Vegas, NV - The Easterseals
of Nevada is hosting its annual Cheers to Chocolate
fundraising event. The seventh annual Cheers To
Chocolate event will be held from on Saturday at The
District at Green Valley Ranch. Chocolate and wine
lovers will have the opportunity to enjoy different
wines provided by Southern Glazers Wine and Spirits, as
well as mouthwatering chocolate by Ethel M Chocolate
Factory, and more. |

Baton Rouge, LA - The Capital
Area Animal Welfare Foundation is gearing up for their
24th Annual Fundraising Event Santa CAAWS. The event is
set for Sunday, at BREC’s Perkins Road Community Park.
Bring your dogs, cats, family, friends and other pets to
have their picture taken with Santa. All proceeds from
the event benefit CAAWS. |
Moline, IL - The Moline Police
Department is once again participating in “No Shave
November” fundraiser to support Tudi’s Tribe, a local
charitable organization that supports children and their
families affected by cancer. This year they are joined
by the East Moline Police Department in our efforts to
raise money for Tudi’s Tribe. Blaze Restoration has
joined the Moline and East Moline police departments as
the title sponsor of the fundraising event. |

Philadelphia, PA - Philly Fights Cancer
Round 3 fundraising event raised $7 million to benefit
the Abramson Cancer Center at Penn Medicine. The event
at The Navy Yard in Philadelphia Saturday featured
special guest Whoopi Goldberg and musical performances
by singer John Legend, Caly Bevier and legendary group
Earth, Wind & Fire. More than 1,500 VIP guests were also
in attendance. The main purpose to the event was to
raise money and awareness to supporting the clinical
trials and translational research at the University of
Pennsylvania Abramson Cancer Center . |
Rochester, NY - More than two
months after being devastated by Hurricane Maria, Red
Cross officials and those with family still in Puerto
Rico say aid is still much-needed. On Sunday, the Red
Cross teamed up with Three Heads Brewing for a
fundraising event to help benefit Puerto Rico. The money
raised will help go toward distributing more meals and
relief items. |

Devils Lake, ND - The Devils
Lake Elks Club was the place to be Saturday night as the
“Blues Brothers” performed for a select audience at the
Elks Club Fundraiser. Elwood and Jake, complete with
black suits, white shirts, narrow ties, black shades and
black fedoras danced and sang the music they made famous
(and then some). Cameo performances were also featured
throughout the night as Jimmy Buffet, Patsy Cline,
Johnnie Cash, Tennessee Ernie Ford and Elvis stepped on
the stage, all performed by local people, members of the
audience. The money raised for the local Elks Lodge in
part goes to support their main charity: Camp Grassick. |
